WORK
Create novel systems
I love inventing things, especially in collaboration with cutting-edge technologists and insightful market experts. More importantly I love the process of customer-centered iteration that leads to a useful, feasible and profitable product launch.
Example 1: Geodata Explorer MVP for Indigo
Zero to MVP in 5 months
Indigo's Data Science team had developed the ability to identify sustainable farming practices from satellite imagery. But it was a technology in search of use cases - we needed to productize the capability.
I led a small internal team and a large external consulting team to take that raw capability through a rapid MVP research, design and build.
After 2 months we had customer feedback on short and long term vision that provided clear user value. And after 5 months we had a working product that our target customers loved, being used to support sales efforts.
Example 2: Unique wearable for Quanttus
New tech + old = right experience
Quanttus was at the bleeding edge of cuffless blood pressure sensing early in the wearables revolution. But the primary user for hypertension management was 50-75 year olds.
The VP of Engineering and I led our two teams to create a novel device that combined the low power, familiar style and reliable function of Swiss watchmaking with a subtle hidden display and our state-of-the-art sensor system.
In just 9 months we went from concept to a stunning release-ready production prototype at the target manufacturing cost. While Quanttus sadly failed to launch, other companies such as Withings and Garmin eventually released similar designs that they continue to sell 5+ years later, and our functional performance specs have yet to be exceeded.

Example 3: cashflow insight for pnc bank
New enrollments and reduced churn.
PNC hired IDEO to reinvigorate their small business banking offering - I was the senior client lead across two major projects.
In our first engagement we characterized their target customers, prioritized their unmet needs and generated concepts. Our second engagement iterated these concepts and defined a new online banking system.
PNC launched the product in 2014, seeing significant immediate impact on acquisition and retention.
Cash Flow Insight continues to be the centerpiece of their small business banking online service with strong positive customer reviews.
